Robert Briggs
ROBERT BRIGGS

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Robert Briggs attended Auburn and Columbia Universities and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He was a bookseller in New York and San Francisco in the 1950's, a West Coast sales and editorial representative for Delacorte Press, and partner in the San Francisco Book Company. He was also part of the jazz and Beat poetry scene in San Francisco in the 1950's and early 1960's. In 1972, he founded Robert Briggs Associates, a loose-knit group of writing and publishing consultants. Projects include works by Joseph Campbell, Kenneth R. Pelletier, Colin Wilson, Arthur M. Young, Doug Boyd, Stanislav Grof, and Theodore Roszak. Briggs is the author of "The American Emergency: A Search for Spiritual Renewal in the Age of Materialism." He recently completed his long awaited memoir, "Ruined Time: The 1950's and the Beat," a personal and cultural autobiography of events leading to and occuring during the pivitol decade of the 1950's. The book includes ruminations on the military-industrial complex, the Beat Generation, and eyewitnessing an atom bomb test while a soldier in the U.S. Army. Robert Briggs and his wife, author Diana Saltoon, are members of the Zen Community of Oregon.

Chel White
CHEL WHITE 
b i o 

Chel White was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Over the last 25 years, he has directed and produced dozens of projects including films, television, audio, television commercials, music videos, and multi-media live performance. His films explore love, obsession, alienation, memories and dreams. He uses allegory and occasionally black humor to paint indelible pictures of the human experience. White's narratives are often told from the perspective of the outsider looking in. Described as a cinematic poet, his work is intricate, sublime, and beautiful. From Sundance to Berlin, the films of Chel White have been shown in film festivals all over the world and recognized with many awards, including Best Short Film from the Stockholm Film Festival. His work has screened at the Smithsonian Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and two commissioned projects he directed are in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He is the recipient of film production grants from Creative Capital, the Oregon Arts Commission, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council (Portland). White was recently awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship for the production of his first feature film. Chel White is a graduate of Antioch University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts. For the past 22 years, he has been a vital part of the Portland, Oregon filmmaking community.
